Following the achievements of the partnership launched in 2017, Henkel will support ongoing projects in Haiti, the Philippines and Indonesia and significantly contribute to developing an infrastructure of more than 400 Plastic Bank collection points in Egypt. Alone in 2020, Henkel will integrate more than 600 tons of the recycled material \u2013 called Social Plastic\u00ae \u2013 in its product packaging.<\/h5>\n<h5><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11918 alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/bcsdh.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2019-11-12-signing-plastic-bank-henkel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"262\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 277px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 277\/262;\"><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.henkel.com\/sustainability\/sustainable-packaging\">commitment for a circular economy<\/a> and against plastic waste in the environment, Henkel was the first global consumer goods company to partner with Plastic Bank. The joint goal is to reduce plastic waste in the oceans while improving the lives of people in poverty \u2013 especially in countries that lack waste management infrastructure. The idea behind: At dedicated centers, the local population can return collected plastic waste and exchange it for money, goods, or services. This material is then integrated back into the plastic value chain as Social Plastic\u00ae.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since the start of the collaboration, Plastic Bank opened additional collection centers in Haiti. Furthermore, Henkel helped the organization to establish a supply chain to ensure the collected plastic waste can be processed and recycled to finally be integrated back into the value chain. Earlier this year, Henkel launched a range of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.henkel.com\/sustainability\/sustainable-packaging\">Beauty Care and Laundry &amp; Home Care products with packaging including up to 50 percent Social Plastic\u00ae<\/a>. In total, more than 200 tons of Social Plastic\u00ae were already processed by Henkel. This milestone received external recognition: For example, Henkel received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happi.com\/contents\/view_breaking-news\/2019-11-11\/winners-of-the-2019-sustainable-beauty-awards\/\">Packaging Europe\u2019s \u201cBest Practice\u201d Sustainability Award and Ecovia\u2019s Sustainable Beauty Award in the \u201cSustainable Packaging\u201d<\/a> category.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Establishing a collection ecosystem in Egypt<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The extended partnership, backed by Henkel\u2019s consumer goods businesses Beauty Care and Laundry &amp; Home Care, continues to focus on two aspects: Further increasing the integration of Social Plastic\u00ae in the company\u2019s product packaging and scaling up Plastic Bank\u2019s global footprint to prevent plastic waste to end up in oceans or waterways and to provide opportunities for people in need.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Henkel will support Plastic Bank in further enhancing the availability and integration of Social Plastic\u00ae as a resource for packaging. Through establishing a collection ecosystem in Egypt, Plastic Bank expects to reach an additional collection capacity of up to 5,000 tons annually \u2013 this corresponds to up to one billion bottles over the five year-period.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Holistic approach to tackling the problem of plastic waste<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPlastic Bank creates a value chain that contributes to a better world. The company has set itself specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.henkel.com\/sustainability\/sustainable-packaging\">packaging targets<\/a> to promote a closed loop for plastic: By 2025, all packaging will be recyclable, reusable or compostable* and the proportion of recycled plastic in the packaging of consumer products in Europe will rise to 35 percent. Already today, many product packaging already consists of 100 percent recycled plastic. To drive progress in the field of sustainability, Henkel is collaborating with different partners along the value chain and participates in many cross-industry initiatives.
