Fueling the future: Hungarian innovations at Shell Eco-marathon 2025

As Shell Hungary marks its 100th anniversary, the company’s enduring commitment to innovation and sustainability is reflected in the achievements of the next generation. Three exceptional Hungarian university teams have qualified for Shell Eco-marathon 2025, one of the world’s most prominent student engineering competitions focused on energy-efficient mobility.

Shell Eco-marathon Europe and Africa 2025 will take place from June 10 to 15 at the Silesia Ring in Kamień Śląski, Poland. Celebrating its 40th season, the event will bring together student teams to design, build, and drive ultra-energy-efficient vehicles, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in sustainable transport.

Hungary will be represented by:

  • BME HydroShark from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics – competing in the Urban Concept category with a hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle
  • BME SharkTeam from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics – competing in the Prototype category with an internal combustion engine-powered vehicle
  • SZEnergy Team from Széchenyi István University in Győr – competing in the Urban Concept category with a battery electric vehicle

We are especially proud to note that the SZEnergy Team enters this year’s competition as defending champions in their category—highlighting not only the innovation, but also the consistency and excellence of Hungarian engineering talent.

These teams are developing and racing electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles in the Urban Concept and Prototype categories, demonstrating sustainable engineering in action. Their projects address some of the most pressing challenges in mobility: how to reduce emissions, increase efficiency, and drive innovation without compromising environmental responsibility.

Shell Eco-marathon exemplifies the kind of transformative, youth-driven action needed to accelerate the transition to a net-zero world. By supporting this initiative, Shell Hungary reinforces its commitment to future-oriented education, technological progress, and long-term sustainability goals—values closely aligned with BCSDH’s mission.
