Resource Efficiency – Worth Investing In – Green Week 2014 Satellite Event

Resource efficiency aiming for absolute resource use reduction means using the Earth’s limited resources in a sustainable manner while minimising impacts on the environment. It allows us to create more with less and to deliver greater value with less input. A recent survey, entitled “Towards the circular economy”[1]reveals the economic benefits of efforts towards enhancing resource efficiency. Another report[2] says that 87% of consumers surveyed worldwide want companies to adopt sourcing policies that respect biodiversity. Proper resource efficiency practices aiming for absolute resource use reduction can benefit also biological diversity. Resource scarcity, tighter environmental standards as well as increase consumer awareness are here to stay and will reward businesses that shift away from the “take, make and dispose” approach.

CEEweb for Biodiversity has been a trail-blazer in Central and Eastern Europe in formulating and advocating for effective resource use policies as well as in building up the CEE business and biodiversity platform. CEEweb for Biodiversity now organizes the multi-stakeholder professional input for the EU Green Week Satellite Event in Budapest and brings together experts from the European Union, business leaders as well as NGOs to discuss the main topic of the 2014 Green Week, which focuses on Circular Economy, Resource Efficiency & Waste.
