How can the ESG Act drive sustainability forward?

The first BCSDH ESG working group meeting of 2024 was held on 6 February, with great interest and more than 40 people in person, hosted by Szerencsejáték Zrt. The large number of participants shows that the topics presented at the meeting: the actualities of the ESG law, effective ESG data collection or the social aspects of ESG are in the focus of companies committed to sustainability.

At the beginning of the event, we were given an insight into the sustainability efforts of Szerencsejáték Zrt. Ildikó Panulin, Head of Corporate Communications, gave a presentation on how to build a corporate programme to support the integration of people with disabilities, which has resulted in a 10% employment rate in the company.

On 12 December 2023, the Parliament adopted the Act on the Rules of Corporate Social Responsibility and other related acts to promote sustainable financing and unified corporate responsibility, taking into account environmental, social and societal aspects (ESG Act). Zsófia Galambosné Dudás, BCSDH‘s project manager, gave a short presentation on the structure of the Act and the main legal obligations for companies.

The key to credible reporting is credible, reliable data. But how can companies get access to such data? What processes should be put in place? What are the conditions for success? These were the questions addressed by the invited guests of the roundtable discussion: Dr. András Balásfalvi-Kiss, Head of Kingfisher, Proworx Kft., Márton Czene, Director of Sustainable Development and HSE, Hungrana Kft., Dr. Hajnalka Csorbai, Strategic Director, Opten Kft., Dóra Kapás, Senior ESG Expert, Szerencsejáték Zrt. and Luca Zselyi, Head of Quality Management and Sustainability, Hungrana Kft. The participants agreed that ESG reporting contributes to improving the sustainability performance of companies.

One of the most pressing challenges in our world is to tackle growing inequalities. This is based on valuing human capital, which is the focus of BCSDH 2024. Greta Nagy, Managing Director of Dandelion Ltd. and head of the ESG working group, brought inspiring thoughts and questions on this topic.

At the end of the event, Zsófia Galambosné Dudás informed the participants about the organisation’s next events.
