PwC Hungary provides industry-focused assurance, tax and advisory services for public and private clients. PwC has been operating since 2011 with two offices – in Budapest and Győr – as one of the leading professional services firms in Hungary.

The member firms of PwC’s global network have set themselves the goal of finding innovative solutions to today’s challenges, taking local circumstances into account. In recent years we have been working to ensure that PwC Hungary’s day-to-day operations are defined by addressing key business and social issues.

Flexibility is the basis of a sustainable labour market – Report on the CEO Roundtables

Regardless of size and industry, the presence of employees with appropriate skills, competencies and professional knowledge is a key element of the success of companies – business leaders agreed at BCSDH’s Action 2020 CEO roundtable conversation focusing on employment in September 2017.

 

 

 

During the first two weeks of September, CEO roundtable conversations took place on 4 different occasions to identify answers to the challenges posed by the current situation of the labour market, and to define the focal areas where BCSDH can formulate recommendations for the business sector. The roundtable conversations were hosted by four BCSDH members: K&H Bank, Randstad, Provident and GE.

 

Participants agreed that companies, regardless of their size and industry, face major challenges in the field of employment. Our world is changing at an accelerating pace, and this poses new challenges to employees who have to respond very quickly. As a result of digitalisation and automation, many jobs will disappear in the near future, while at the same time professions that require creativity will be become extremely valuable. In this rapidly changing environment, companies need to create more flexible employment systems to attract and retain workforce.

During the BCSDH Jubilee Business Lunch on 12 October 2017 and in our annual publication, BCSDH will identify the employment-related areas in which most companies can apply easily adoptable business solutions, and define recommendations for the business sector which will have a real impact on these areas.

Focus on the environment – Green Frog Award

Deloitte is once again looking for the best sustainability report

 A large percentage of large Hungarian enterprises regularly prepare sustainability reports, but an increasing number of small and medium-sized enterprises also see the importance of having such a report in place. Launched by Deloitte Hungary, the Green Frog Award not only recognises the companies with the best sustainability reports, but also provides companies with an excellent opportunity to assess the progress they have made in meeting the EU’s reporting requirement. In addition, the Green Frog Award lets companies showcase themselves on the international stage as well.

 

For those Hungarian enterprises which are not focused purely on profits but also consider the importance of social responsibility when making business decisions, sustainability initiatives and environmental protection are becoming a fundamental part of day-to-day operations. This is confirmed by the fact that the quality of the reports submitted as entries for the Green Frog Award launched by Deloitte Hungary is improving steadily each year.

 

The 17th edition

Deloitte Hungary issues the Green Frog Award (which was first launched in 2000) as an acknowledgement of the companies’ environmental and social responsibility, as well as their reports which reflect their achievements in this area. Applications for the 17th edition of the competition can be submitted between 18 August and 18 September, and applicants will have the opportunity to compete not only within Hungary, but also at regional level.

 

Reports rewarded at the national level will automatically participate at the regional level competition as well. Organisations can submit CSR reports, sustainability reports or integrated reports that cover the previous one or two financial year(s).

 

Deloitte’s professionals are here to help

Experience suggests that, in many cases, a lack of knowledge and a fear from the volume of administrative tasks involved in the preparation of reports are the factors that keep companies from preparing sustainability reports. However, when drafting a report that effectively supports the entity’s operation and strategy, companies are not forced to rely only on their own knowledge as Deloitte Hungary’s advisors are there to assist them in these matters. Deloitte’s staff are able to support companies seeking their help not only in preparing reports, but also in transitioning to an environmentally conscious and sustainable business operation.

Any report may be nominated for the Green Frog Award; however, in accordance with the evaluation criteria, preference may be given to reports which comply with at least one of the following: the GRI G4 guidelines, the GRI Standards guidelines, the IIRC’s guidelines, the UN’s Global Compact guidelines, the ISO 26000 guidance, and EU Directive 2014/95/EU on the disclosure of non-financial and diversity information by certain large undertakings and groups. They can be submitted by private companies, public organisations, as well as foundations or universities. At the national level, companies can submit the reports in the local language or English.

The results of the competition are expected to be published in November after an independent jury has evaluated the submitted sustainability reports.

In addition to strengthening investor trust by making the business model, the strategy and potential risks more transparent, a good sustainability report can also enable companies to identify new business opportunities” – said Ákos Lukács, leader of Deloitte’s Sustainability and Climate Change service line.

Transparent operations – through the lens of future leaders

Businesses are expected to operate transparently, which is a key aspect of creating a sustainable economy. The EU-directive, which has taken effect in 2017 does oblige non-financial reporting for certain large companies. Despite of that, the Edelman Trust Report 2017 Survey found out, that not only the institutionalised world, but also business is dominated by an atmosphere of unprecedented distrust.

The question of the day was: What can we do to rebuild confidence and trust, in order to help future leaders to lead sustainable coorporations?

In 6th September, the last professional day of our Future Leaders Program ws held by Richter Gedeon Plc. Mentors and participants have examined the incentives and objects of transparent operation from various aspectives, with the help of real-life decision-making situations. Pro bono KPMG tax workshop and strategy review for NeSst

NESsT Europe Nonprofit Kft. was one of the three winners of KPMG’s Responsible Society Award. Apart from financial and IT support, KPMG has provided pro bono professional services to the organization and its portfolio members as well. Representatives of 9 organizations (including non-profits, foundations and social cooperatives) participated at a tax workshop where besides general tax rules, special tax issues around the operation of the organizations were also discussed. Matyodesign, a social enterprise was given valuable feedback on its financial growth strategy and how to present this to investors and hereby contributing to the organizations’ long-term success.

Business Relevance of Sustainability/SDGs – a business workshop presented by KPMG and BCSDH

Member News

A workshop hosted by KPMG attracted nearly 30 BCSDH member companies to discuss current sustainability trends, focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The keynote speaker of the event was Lord Michael Hastings, KPMG’s Global Head of Citizenship.

His thought-provoking speech reflecting among others on Donald Trump’s statement on withdrawing the US from the Paris Climate Accord and the news around building the world’s largest solar power in China, generated a lively discussion. International and local best practices, presented by panel discussion participants (Joerg Bauer – President, GE Hungary; Attila Chikán – CEO, ALTEO Group; Ágnes Fábián – Managing Director, HENKEL Hungary and Imre Horváth – CEO, METRO Hungary) brought examples on how the business world can tackle climate change. No matter political decisions, businesses are eager to implement the SDGs as these targets provide opportunities for developing sustainable business practices and solutions, and maintaining the businesses of the future.

Swiss Business Day – Innovation and Talent – 22nd November 2017.

Dear our Partners,
We are happy to inform you, that the Swiss Business Day will be organised for the fourth time on 22nd November 2017.
The Board of the Chamber selected Innovation and Talent as topics for this year’s event so as to bring into focus one of the
most important themes for the domestic economy: retaining and recruiting labour and talent management.
We are preparing a major novelty, one that expands the framework we have grown used to.
We will enhance the event by adding a job fair function to provide an opportunity to exhibiting Swiss companies for advertising their current vacancies and for holding job interviews and to the general public for becoming familiar in a single location with the all of the opportunities offered by Swiss companies. We hope that the circle of exhibitors continues to expand, and that the number of companies with Swiss affiations intending to present themselves to the general public will surpass the earlier number of 60 exhibitors. The day will be about Swiss brand, quality, excellent cooperation between Switzerland and Hungary, which is an area of perpetual growth an development and could be a good example for other international and domestic participants of the economy.
We would like to construct an interesting agenda about the selected themes, one that goes beyond addressing issues of political, diplomatic and economic nature by entertaining interesting questions about HR and innovation. We also attach importance to a panel discussion with heads of companies (about success stories and sharing experiences). The target audience of the event can be divided into two segments: economic participants and managers of companies attending the exhibition and the conference coupled with students and job seekers visiting especially the job fair.
This year’s event will also be held with the underlying support of the Swiss Embassy in Budapest. Moreover, the Hungarian Embassy in Bern and Switzerland Global Enterprise are also important partners in Switzerland, particularly in regards to our efforts to reach out with the news about the event to new potential Swiss investors. In addition, this year we will have the HIPA as a main sponsor of the event as well.

Network for electric vehicle chargers in the CEE Region

The European Commission proposed to invest €2.7 billion in 152 key transport projects that support competitive, clean and connected mobility in Europe. One of the projects selected for receiving EU financial assistance, EUR 19 million, is NEXT-E project initiated by a consortium to which MOL Group belongs.

The consortium, consisting of MOL Group, E.ON Group, HEP, Petrol, BMW and Nissan applied for the European funds to install a charging network for electric vehicles across  Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania enabling electric cars a full access across the whole region. This supports MOL Group’s 2030 strategy to become a regional leader in alternative fuels as well.

 

In the implementation phase of the NEXT-E project more than 250 fast (50 kW) and ultra-fast (at least 150 kW) chargers are planned to be installed along main highways, with a maximum distance of 150 kms.
